ANNOUNCEMENT OF RESERVE SERGEANTS MAJOR SLATE FOR CALENDAR YEAR 2026 (CY26)

Three Reserve Sergeants Major Just Got Their Next Billets. Here's the Full Slate.

HQMC just published the Reserve Sergeants Major slate for Calendar Year 2026.

Three SgtMaj billets. Three names. Specific locations and report timelines.

If you're one of them, or you manage manpower at one of the gaining commands, this is what you need to know.

Reference: MARADMIN 218/26, signed 11 May 2026. Governed by MCO 1001R.1L (Marine Corps Reserve Administrative Management Manual, MCRAMM) and the Select Reserve BIC Assignment and Management Policy (RAP, Sep 2025).

The old problem

Reserve SgtMaj assignments don't happen through the same pipeline as staff assignments.

They're HQMC-directed. That means the unit doesn't just post a vacancy and fill it locally. Reserve Affairs runs the slate, and the BIC management flows through them, not the unit.

Without a clear public announcement, affected Marines and their gaining commands sometimes had mismatched timelines and incomplete turnover. This MARADMIN closes that gap by publishing the who, where, and when in one place.

The new rule (in one line)

HQMC Reserve Affairs has formally slated three Sergeants Major to O-6 level command billets, with directed report timelines and a mandatory Inter-Unit Transfer process through RTAMMS.

The CY26 Reserve SgtMaj Slate

Here are the three assignments, straight from the message:

| Marine | Command | Location | Report NLT | |---|---|---|---| | W. U. Lucero, Jr. | HQTRS, MAG-41 | Fort Worth, TX | May 2026 | | T. Q. Tran | HQTRS, MAG-49 | McGuire AFB, NJ | Apr 2027 | | L. C. Lamothe | 4th CRR | Marietta, GA | Apr 2027 |

One of those NLT dates has already landed on the calendar.

If you're SgtMaj Lucero, the clock is essentially now.

What the assigned Marines are required to do

This is sequential. Follow it in order.

  1. Submit your Inter-Unit Transfer (IUT) through RTAMMS to HQMC Reserve Affairs Division.
  2. Coordinate your report date directly with the SgtMaj of your gaining Major Subordinate Command.
  3. Ensure a proper turnover is conducted before you step into the billet.

(Step three isn't optional language. The message specifically calls it out.)

Tour length and extensions

✦ Standard tour: 24 to 36 months.

✦ Possible extension: up to 12 additional months.

✦ Extension requires: a favorable endorsement through the chain of command, based on the needs of the Marine Corps.

For unit manpower managers

If you manage BICs at a command receiving one of these Marines, here's what applies to you.

HQMC-directed assignments are coded as "command slated" (BIC type 8999) in MCTFS. Reserve Affairs makes those BIC entries. You do not input them.

What you do: contact Reserve Affairs directly at SMB_RAP@usmc.mil for any required BIC management actions involving first sergeants or sergeants major.

When you email them, include:

✦ The Marine's name

✦ The BIC

✦ The Reporting Unit Code (RUC)

That's the complete package they need to act.

Why this is a big deal

Most SgtMaj-level Reserve billets are filled quietly. This MARADMIN makes three command-level assignments public and official in one document.

It also clarifies the lane separation. Unit manpower managers do not touch these BICs unilaterally. Reserve Affairs owns them. That distinction matters when commands try to manage their own rosters and accidentally create conflicting entries in MCTFS.

The explicit coordination requirement between the incoming SgtMaj and the gaining command's SgtMaj is also worth noting. Turnover at this level affects unit readiness in ways that a bad handoff can damage for months.

A smaller note for active-duty Marines

Paragraph 6 of this MARADMIN states explicitly: this message is only applicable to the Reserve Component.

If you're active duty, there's nothing here that applies to your assignments or manpower systems.

The bottom line

Three Reserve Sergeants Major have their orders. One is due now. Two report in April 2027.

If you're on the slate: submit your IUT through RTAMMS, coordinate your report date, and execute a clean turnover.

If you manage manpower at a gaining command: contact SMB_RAP@usmc.mil for BIC actions. Don't try to input these yourself.

What to do with this

If you're one of the three slated SgtsMaj:

✦ Submit your IUT in RTAMMS immediately.

✦ Reach out to the gaining command's SgtMaj now to set your report date.

✦ Build your turnover plan early. April 2027 sounds far away until it isn't.

If you're a unit manpower manager at MAG-41, MAG-49, or 4th CRR:

✦ Do not enter BIC changes on your own.

✦ Email SMB_RAP@usmc.mil with the Marine's name, BIC, and RUC.

✦ Coordinate with your incoming SgtMaj on admin timing.

If you have questions about the slating process:
