Is Your EPME Seminar Seat for AY 2027 Already Filling Up?

The registration windows are open. The class dates are set. And if you wait too long, your slot disappears.

Here is what you need to know, and what you need to do right now.

Reference: MARADMIN 110/26, signed 17 March 2026. Issued by the Commanding General, Marine Corps University, EDCOM. Underlying requirements are in MARADMIN 630/24 and MARADMIN 631/24.

The old problem

EPME seminar seats fill on a deadline system. Marines who miss the registration window by even a day get locked out, and commands that drag their feet on approvals are the most common reason Marines lose their slot.

The process also trips people up at the prereq stage. You cannot register for the seminar if you have not finished the right distance education program first.

Both problems are avoidable. But only if you know the timeline.

The new rule (in one line)

AY 2027 EPME seminar class dates are now published, registration is student-initiated, and your command must approve your enrollment before the deadline or you are out.

The class dates

Three cycles are available. All regions run on the same schedule.

| Class | Registration Deadline | Start Week | End Week | |---|---|---|---| | 1-27 | 26 Jun 2026 | 13 Jul 2026 | 23 Oct 2026 | | 2-27 | 23 Oct 2026 | 9 Nov 2026 | 5 Mar 2027 | | 3-27 | 26 Feb 2027 | 15 Mar 2027 | 25 Jun 2027 |

Class 2-27 includes a two-week holiday break from 19 December 2026 through 3 January 2027.

(Registration closes 17 days before the start week. That is a hard stop.)

The two programs

EPME5500. Sergeants School Seminar Program (SSSP)

For Sergeants. The nonresident equivalent of resident Sergeants School.

EPME6800. SNCO Leadership School Seminar Program (SLSSP)

For SNCOs. The nonresident equivalent of resident Career School.

Completing either one counts the same as the resident school for promotion purposes.

Yes, it is that direct.

What you need before you can register

Four things. In this order.

  1. Meet Marine Corps Body Composition Program standards.
  2. Complete the correct prereq distance education program on MCeLE. ✦ For SSSP: complete EPME5000 Sergeants School DEP. ✦ For SLSSP: complete EPME6000 Career School DEP.
  3. Get your commanding officer to endorse a Command Screening Checklist (NAVMC 11580). That form confirms your command will give you the time and support to finish the course.
  4. Upload that signed CSC with your enrollment request in MCeLE.

Do not skip step two. It is a hard gate.

How to register

Registration is student-initiated. Your unit will not do this for you.

  1. Go to marinenet.usmc.mil.
  2. Search for your course. ✦ SSSP: search "5500" ✦ SLSSP: search "6800"
  3. Upload your signed NAVMC 11580 CSC with the enrollment request.
  4. Watch your request status. If it still shows "pending" before the deadline, contact your unit training section or your sergeant major immediately.

Commands must approve your request before the registration deadline. Pending is not approved.

Training videos for the enrollment process are at usmcu.edu/CDET/enlisted/#cdet_enrollment.

Regional points of contact

Find your region. Email is the preferred method.

✦ Camp Lejeune: (910) 451-2149 / CDET_CampLejeune@usmcu.edu ✦ Camp Pendleton: (760) 763-8425 / CDET_CampPendleton@usmcu.edu ✦ Fort Worth: (817) 782-7184 / CDET_FortWorth@usmc.mil ✦ Hawaii: (808) 496-3963 / CDET_Hawaii@usmcu.edu ✦ Miramar: (858) 307-1373 / CDET_Miramar@usmcu.edu ✦ Okinawa: DSN (315) 645-2219/2500 / CDET_Okinawa@usmcu.edu ✦ Quantico: (703) 432-6520 / MCU_CDET_Quantico@usmcu.edu (Embassy Security Group Marines use Quantico.) ✦ OCONUS not covered above: (703) 784-2410 / cdet_oconus@usmc.mil

A few things that catch people off guard

✦ TAD is not authorized for these seminars. This is a nonresident program. You are not getting orders. ✦ You need a personal computer with a camera, microphone, and reliable internet. No exceptions listed. ✦ Required reading for Sergeants (SSSP): "You Are Worth It: Building a Life Worth Fighting For." Buy it or find it at your library. ✦ Required reading for SNCOs (SLSSP): "Black Hearts: One Platoon's Descent into Madness in Iraq's Triangle of Death." Same deal.

Get the book early. Do not be the Marine who shows up to week one without it.

Why this is a big deal for Reserve Marines

The nonresident seminar is one of the primary paths for SMCR, IMA, and IRR Marines to complete EPME without leaving their civilian lives for a resident school.

It counts the same for promotion.

But it requires your command to actively approve you, and it requires you to have already completed the prereq online course. Neither of those things happens automatically.

Reserve Marines who miss the registration window often end up waiting an entire cycle or more. That can delay promotion eligibility.

The calendar is now published. The first deadline is 26 June 2026. That is not far away.

A smaller note for active-duty Marines

Active-duty Marines are also eligible for these seminar programs and follow the same registration process. If you are stationed in an OCONUS location not covered by a regional campus, use the OCONUS POC listed above.

The bottom line

AY 2027 EPME seminar seats are available now across three cycles. Registration is your responsibility. Your command has to approve it before the deadline. You have to finish the prereq DEP before you can even register. Start both of those things today.

What to do with this

If you are a Sergeant or SNCO in the SMCR, IMA, or IRR: ✦ Check whether you have completed the required DEP on MCeLE. Do this first. ✦ Decide which class cycle fits your schedule. ✦ Start the CSC conversation with your commander now. ✦ Register on MCeLE once your prereq is complete and your CSC is signed. ✦ Track your enrollment status. Follow up before the deadline closes.

If you are a unit S-1, training chief, or sergeant major: ✦ Identify Sergeants and SNCOs in your unit who are EPME-eligible. ✦ Confirm who has completed their prereq DEP. ✦ Make sure enrollment requests are not sitting unapproved in MCeLE. ✦ Brief the class dates and registration deadlines at your next drill.

If you are a career planner or career retention specialist: ✦ Use this as a counseling touchpoint for any enlisted Marine approaching promotion eligibility who has not completed resident EPME.

This is written by a reservist, for reservists. It is not an official publication of HQMC or MARFORRES. Always verify guidance with your command or unit S-1 before acting on any article or summary.
