FY 2026 APPROVED SELECTIONS TO GUNNERY SERGEANT
MARADMIN 106/26 · March 13, 2026 · Source
Did You Make the FY 2026 Gunnery Sergeant Selection List?
HQMC just released the approved selections for promotion to GySgt.
If your name is on this list, your clock is already running.
Here is what you need to know, and what you need to do next.
Reference: MARADMIN 106/26, signed 13 March 2026. Underlying authority: MCO P1400.32D w/CH 2, the Enlisted Promotion Manual.
The old problem
Getting selected for GySgt is not the same as getting promoted.
There is an obligated service requirement. If your End of Active Service date falls before your projected promotion month, your promotion gets delayed or you lose the selection entirely.
In the past, Marines sometimes found out too late to fix it. This message exists to give you the runway to act now.
The new rule (in one line)
If you are on the FY 2026 GySgt selection list, you are authorized right now to submit a reenlistment or extension request to meet the 24-month obligated service requirement.
How this works
Step 1. Find out if you are on the list.
The selectee roster is available within 5 days of 13 March 2026 on the Enlisted Promotions website.
Go here: manpower.marines.mil
Then navigate:
- Divisions
- Manpower Management
- Performance Branch
- Promotion Section
- Enlisted Promotions
- SNCOs
- GySgt Board
- FY 2026
That roster shows your seniority number, unit, projected promotion date, and the EAS you need to meet OBS.
Step 2. Figure out your projected promotion month.
Use your seniority number and this table:
| Seniority Number | Projected Month | |---|---| | 0 | April 2026 | | 250 | May 2026 | | 500 | June 2026 | | 750 | July 2026 | | 1000 | August 2026 | | 1250 | September 2026 | | 1375 | October 2026 | | 1500 | November 2026 | | 1625 | December 2026 | | 1750 | January 2027 | | 1875 | February 2027 | | 2125 | March 2027 | | List clear | April 2027 |
(These are estimates. Monthly promotion MARADMINs may shift things slightly.)
Step 3. Calculate your OBS requirement.
You need your EAS to fall at least 24 months after your projected promotion date.
Example: seniority number 1775 projects to February 2027. You need an EAS of 31 January 2029 or later.
Step 4. Submit your extension or reenlistment now.
You do not have to wait for your monthly promotion MARADMIN.
This MARADMIN is your authority to act today.
Step 5. If you are a commander, counsel your selectees within 30 days.
Every selected Marine in your command gets counseled on the OBS requirement.
That clock started 13 March 2026.
Step 6. Know the consequence of refusing.
If a selected Marine refuses to extend or reenlist, the commander notifies MMPB-11 by naval letter.
That Marine's seniority number gets pulled.
They are ineligible for future promotion boards.
(Yes, that is permanent.)
Why this is a big deal
Reserve Marines often have complicated EAS situations.
Your obligated service structure does not always look like your active counterpart's. You may have contract gaps, pending orders, or an EAS that does not map cleanly onto a 24-month extension window.
That is exactly why you need to look at this early.
The list is out. The roster will be up within days. Your command has 30 days to counsel you.
Do not wait for your unit to find you. Find the roster yourself.
PME note
If you completed MCeLE EPME6000 before the board convene date, you were considered PME-qualified for this board.
If you did not complete it, that is a separate issue for a future board.
A smaller note for active-duty Marines
Everything above applies to you as well. Your S-1 should already be working this. But if you have not seen the roster or received counseling within 30 days of 13 March 2026, go ask. Do not assume it is handled.
The bottom line
Selection is not promotion.
You still have to meet the 24-month OBS requirement. You have the authority to act on that right now. The roster is coming within days. Your commander has 30 days to counsel you. Refusing to extend costs you the selection permanently.
What to do with this
If you are a selected Staff Sergeant:
✦ Pull the roster as soon as it posts (within 5 days of 13 March 2026).
✦ Find your seniority number and projected promotion month.
✦ Check your current EAS against the 24-month requirement.
✦ If you are short, submit your extension or reenlistment request immediately. Cite MARADMIN 106/26 as the authority.
✦ Do not wait for your commander to come to you.
If you are a Reserve unit commander or S-1:
✦ Download the selection roster within 5 days.
✦ Identify every selectee in your command.
✦ Counsel each one within 30 days of 13 March 2026.
✦ If any Marine refuses to extend, notify MMPB-11 by naval letter.
If you are an IMA or IRR Marine who may be on the list:
✦ Check the roster yourself. Your unit may not find you quickly.
✦ Contact your IMA management activity or gaining command S-1 immediately.
✦ The same OBS rules apply to you. The same 30-day counseling window applies.
