FISCAL YEAR 2027 (FY27) ENLISTED TO WARRANT OFFICER (WO) RESERVE SELECTION BOARD
MARADMIN 076/26 · March 2, 2026 · Source
Want to Become a Warrant Officer in the Reserves? The FY27 Board Is Open.
The Marine Corps just announced the selection board for Reserve enlisted Marines who want to commission as Warrant Officers.
The deadline is real. The billet list is specific. And if you've been thinking about this, now is the time to move.
Reference: MARADMIN 076/26, signed 27 February 2026. Underlying authority is MCO 1040.42B w/Ch 1, the Warrant Officer and LDO Accession Programs order.
The old problem
The WO accession process has historically been murky for Reserve Marines.
Billet vacancies weren't always published clearly. Application routing through Reserve chains of command added confusion. And the difference between what AR and SMCR Marines could apply for wasn't always obvious upfront.
This MARADMIN fixes that by laying out exactly which billets are open, where they are, and how to get your packet in.
The new rule (in one line)
Reserve enlisted Marines have until 15 April 2026 to submit a complete electronic application for the FY27 Warrant Officer Reserve Selection Board, which convenes around 2 June 2026.
How this works
The timeline
- 15 April 2026. Application deadline. No exceptions. Late applications will not be accepted.
- On or about 2 June 2026. Board convenes at HQMC for approximately two weeks.
(Yes, that's roughly six weeks between deadline and board. Your packet needs to be clean before you submit it.)
Who can apply
✦ Selected Marine Corps Reserve (SMCR) Marines
✦ Active Reserve (AR) Marines
✦ Mobilized Reserve Marines
✦ Individual Ready Reserve (IRR) Marines
✦ Standby Reserve Marines on the active list
How to submit
All applications go in electronically. No exceptions unless your situation is extreme. Even then, hard copies are case-by-case only.
Here is the process:
- Confirm you meet MOS technical qualifications. Contact your Military Occupational Field Sponsor if you are unsure.
- Build your complete application package. Everything must be legible.
- Get endorsements from your CO or Inspector-Instructor at each level of command, up to the first General Officer in your chain.
- Upload through DoD SAFE.
- Submit to: warrantofficerboard@marines.usmc.mil
A few things to know about endorsements:
✦ Your CO or I-I is endorsing their level of confidence in you. They do not need to review your entire application to do that.
✦ Commands should only ask to see what they need to make that judgment call.
✦ You must receive original copies of all endorsements before you submit.
✦ COs and I-Is: return endorsements promptly. Marines cannot submit without them, and the clock is ticking.
MOS technical qualifications
You must be technically and professionally qualified for the MOS you are applying to.
Your application must identify the MOS, assignments, and billets you have held.
Reach out to your MOS Field Sponsor early if there is any question about your eligibility.
Open billets by category
AR Marines only:
✦ 0170: 2 billets. Assignment location determined by AR program needs after WOBC.
✦ 6004: 0 billets available this cycle.
✦ 6502: 0 billets available this cycle.
SMCR Marines: A large number of billets are open across the country. You must identify your preferred assignment location in your application.

(If your MOS or location is not on this list, there is no vacancy for you this cycle. That does not mean you cannot prepare for next year.)
Why this is a big deal
Warrant Officer billets in the Reserve are limited. They are not posted constantly.
This is one of the only times each year that enlisted Reserve Marines have a formal, structured pathway to commission. The billet list tells you exactly where the Corps needs WOs right now, which is rare clarity.
If you have the MOS, the time in grade, and the technical chops, and you have been sitting on this decision, this cycle is your window.
The endorsement routing through Reserve chains of command takes longer than people expect. Six weeks sounds like a lot. It is not, once you factor in weekend drill schedules and I-I availability.
Start now.
A smaller note for active-duty Marines
This board is specifically for Reserve component Marines. Active-duty enlisted Marines interested in the WO accession program should track the separate active-duty WO board, announced under a different MARADMIN. The underlying policy reference, MCO 1040.42B, applies to both programs.
The bottom line
The FY27 Enlisted to Warrant Officer Reserve Selection Board opens now and closes 15 April 2026. The board itself meets around 2 June 2026. Applications go through DoD SAFE. You need command endorsements all the way up to your first General Officer. SMCR Marines must identify their preferred billet location. Billets are finite and listed above.
Miss the deadline and you wait another year.
What to do with this
If you are an SMCR or AR Marine who wants to apply:
- Check the billet list above against your MOS. Confirm a vacancy exists for you.
- Contact your MOS Field Sponsor to verify technical qualification.
- Start your application package now. Do not wait until April.
- Alert your CO or I-I immediately so they have time to prepare their endorsement.
- Upload and submit via DoD SAFE to warrantofficerboard@marines.usmc.mil before 15 April 2026.
If you are an IRR or Standby Reserve Marine:
You are eligible to apply. The endorsement routing may be less straightforward. Contact your mobilization unit or the MCRC POC below to clarify your chain of command for endorsement purposes.
If you are a CO or I-I:
Your endorsement is the bottleneck. Return it to the Marine as fast as you can. You do not need to review the entire application. You only need to assess your level of confidence in the Marine. Get it done.
If you have questions about the application system or are stuck:
Contact the MCRC point of contact directly:

This is written by a reservist, for reservists. It is not an official publication of HQMC or MARFORRES. Always verify guidance with your command or unit S-1 before acting on any article or summary.
Need a shorter version of this for a drill brief or a unit Facebook post? Or a deeper breakdown of a specific MOS or billet? Ask and it can be done.
