MARADMIN 054/26 · February 20, 2026 · Source

Four Reserve SgtMaj Billets Are Open. Here's How to Apply.

HQMC just published the CY2026 slate for Reserve Component Sergeants Major billet vacancies.

Four O-6 level Command Sergeant Major positions are up for grabs.

If you're a SgtMaj in the Selected Marine Corps Reserve, this one is directly for you.

Reference: MARADMIN 054/26, signed 19 February 2026. Governed by MCO 1001R.1L CH 1, the Marine Corps Reserve Administrative Management Manual (MCRAMM).

The old problem

Billet slating for senior Reserve enlisted leaders happens on a rolling basis.

Without a clear, consolidated announcement, eligible SgtsMaj might miss a window.

This MARADMIN is that announcement. It names the open billets, the eligibility rules, the exact package requirements, and the hard deadline.

The new rule (in one line)

Four Reserve Command SgtMaj billets are open for CY2026, and your complete application package must land at HQMC Reserve Affairs no later than 11 April 2026.

The open billets

These are O-6 level Command Sergeant Major positions. All have a report-no-later-than date of April 2027.

| Rank | Command | Location | |------|---------|----------| | SgtMaj | HQTRS, MAG-49 | McGuire AFB, NJ | | SgtMaj | TH CRR | Marietta, GA | | SgtMaj | HQ NECC | Virginia Beach, VA | | SgtMaj | 4th Civil Affairs Group | Hialeah, FL |

Who is eligible

You must meet every one of these before you apply.

Time on station:

✦ If this would be your first O-5 level assignment: you must have at least 24 months on station by March 2027, calculated from your Date Joined Present Unit (DJPU).

✦ If this would be a subsequent O-5 level assignment: you need at least 12 months on station by March 2027, same calculation.

Service obligation:

✦ You must have at least 24 months of available service remaining to obligate at the time of assignment. This keeps you within Enlisted Career Force Controls (ECFC) limits.

Readiness and standards:

✦ Height and weight or BCP compliant.

✦ Passed your most recent PFT and CFT.

✦ Current on medical and dental readiness.

✦ Worldwide deployable.

Clearance and status:

✦ Must possess a Top Secret clearance, or be actively in the eligibility determination process.

✦ Must not be approved for retirement or transferred to the Retired Reserve awaiting pay.

(If you're already headed out the door, this one isn't for you.)

What your package must include

Seven items. All seven. Submitted as a single PDF.

  1. NAVMC 10274 (Assignment Action Form), addressed to the Director, Reserve Affairs, attention: SgtMaj.
  2. Current height and weight verification, or BCP documentation.
  3. Security clearance verification letter.
  4. Reserve Qualification Summary (RQS). Must be NAVMC 10476, dated September 2016. Any other version gets thrown out.
  5. Official photograph. Required for non-promotion selection boards per MARADMIN 582/25.
  6. Chain of command endorsement in standard naval letter format, routed through your immediate chain up to and including the first O-6. A Commanding General endorsement is not required.
  7. Accurate OMPF. You are responsible for making sure your Official Military Personnel File is current before submitting. Update it through O-RMA at https://www.manpower.usmc.mil/orma/.

File naming format:

Your PDF must be named exactly like this: EDIPI_Rank_LNAME.PDF

Example: 123456789_SgtMaj_Applicant.PDF

Packages not formatted this way will be deleted. Not returned. Deleted.

Where to send it:

Email your complete package to: Reserve_Affairs_SGTMAJ@usmc.mil

Subject line must read: CY26 SMCR O6 Slate Package ICO SgtMaj Last Name, First Name

Hard deadline: 11 April 2026.

Why this is a big deal

These are some of the most senior enlisted leadership positions available to Reserve SgtsMaj.

O-6 level Command SgtMaj billets carry 24 to 36 month tours.

Selection for one of these shapes the tail end of a career in a meaningful way.

And the competition is real. There are four billets. The slate is built by HQMC Reserve Affairs directly.

Primary selections go out via a follow-on MARADMIN. Alternates get a phone call and email from the RA SgtMaj personally.

If you're eligible and you don't apply, the window closes without you.

After selection

If you're selected, move quickly.

✦ Be ready to accept orders no later than the April 2027 date listed for your billet.

✦ Make immediate contact with the gaining unit to set a formal check-in date and start a proper turnover.

✦ Begin a reenlistment or extension right away to establish an updated Reserve End of Current Contract (RECC). You need enough runway for a full tour.

✦ An Inter-Unit Transfer (IUT) will be submitted through RTAMMS to HQMC Reserve Affairs.

A smaller note for active-duty Marines

This MARADMIN explicitly applies only to the Reserve Component. There is nothing here for active-duty Marines to act on directly.

The bottom line

Four Reserve SgtMaj billets. One deadline. April 11, 2026.

If you're a SgtMaj in the SMCR who meets the eligibility criteria, build your package now. The file naming and format rules are strict, and a wrong version of one form or a misnamed PDF ends your application before anyone reads it.

Questions go directly to the RA SgtMaj at (703) 784-9100 or Reserve_Affairs_SGTMAJ@usmc.mil.

What to do with this

If you're an eligible SgtMaj: Pull your OMPF now and verify it's current. Check your DJPU and calculate your time on station against the March 2027 window. Confirm your clearance status. Start building your package today. The deadline is 11 April 2026 and there are seven required items.

If you're a unit S-1 or administrative chief: Flag this for any SgtsMaj in your unit. Help them verify their RQS version (September 2016 only), confirm their chain of command endorsement routing, and remind them of the PDF naming format.

If you're an O-6 in the chain of command: Your endorsement is required. Build time into your schedule to review and sign these packages before the deadline.

If you're a senior enlisted leader who isn't yet a SgtMaj: File this away. Understanding how billet slating works at the senior level helps you plan a career trajectory.

This is written by a reservist, for reservists. It is not an official publication of HQMC or MARFORRES. Always verify guidance with your command or unit S-1 before acting on any article or summary.
